About This Site

Home Backup Power Guide is a small independent guide to portable power stations, also called solar generators, for home backup. It explains how to size one by watts and watt-hours and reviews two models from one seller, My Patriot Supply. The site earns a commission when readers buy through its links.

What the site is

The site answers one question for homeowners and renters: which portable power station fits an outage, and how do you work that out yourself? It has two unit reviews, a head-to-head comparison and guides on watts, refrigerators, CPAP machines, gas generators, battery chemistry, lifespan and EMP claims. The full list is on the guides page. There is no named author on the site, and no brand person appears in the copy.

How we research and date figures

Every price, wattage, capacity and port count comes from the seller's own product pages, read on 2026-11-04 and attributed on each page. Outside facts, such as refrigerator hours, carbon monoxide safety and what EMP is, come from public agencies, including Ready.gov, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, FoodSafety.gov, the Department of Energy and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Runtime figures are our own arithmetic from the seller's watt-hours, with the formula shown and the example watts labelled as assumptions. Pages carry a read date and an update history. Prices on a seller's site change, so check the seller before you buy.

How we make money

The site is supported by commission from My Patriot Supply. If you click a link and buy, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The details, including what the arrangement does and does not change, are on the affiliate disclosure page.

What we don't do

We ran no lab tests. We have not measured either Grid Doctor unit's output or runtime, and the reviews are spec-and-fit reviews based on the seller's pages and public sources. We do not publish customer reviews or testimonials of our own. Where a seller's statement could not be checked, such as the EMP feature, the guide says so and calls it the seller's claim. The site does not name rival brands; comparisons are between categories such as gas generators and power stations.

Corrections

The site has no contact form, email address or comments section. When a source changes or a figure turns out wrong, the page is corrected and the change is dated in its update history. Return to the best portable power station for home backup to see the current guide.
